Webinar Summary
The need to decarbonize power generation is the new driving force behind utility management. Colorado Springs Utilities is moving quickly from its traditional coal-fired power generation to provide resilient, reliable and cost-effective energy that is environmentally sustainable. This presentation will discuss the city’s journey to its 2020 Energy Vision program; selection of the generation portfolio; transformation from coal at the Drake plant to natural gas peaking power and response to new regulations.
About the Presenters
David Tennant's professional experience in the power industry dates back to 2015 when he started as a mechanical engineer with Stanley Consultants. His experience includes design, feasibility analysis, owner's representative services and construction support for new and existing power plants, including combined heat and power plants, natural gas units, coal units and alternative energy technologies.
Phil Tunnah joined Stanley Consultants in 2022 after 33 years of experience in the AEC industry. As operations director for Stanley, he provides resource and project planning leadership and implements new recruitment, member development, communications, engagement, intern and young professional programs, processes and approaches.
David Longrie joined Colorado Springs Utilities in 2007 and has planned and delivered numerous water and energy projects. David is leading Colorado Springs Utilities' current Battery Energy Storage projects and new resource acquisitions. David's resource planning team performs electric and gas resource planning, distributed energy resource planning and runs the demand side management programs for Colorado Springs Utilities.
Colorado Springs Utilities is a municipally owned utility providing electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services to the Pikes Peak region. As part of achieving their Sustainable Energy Plan, Colorado Springs Utilities is planning for 350MW of Natural Gas, 525 MW of new solar, 625 MW of new wind and over 300 MW of BES.
