Member Spotlight

Stephen G. Lippy, P.E., BCEE, S.C.

Steve Lippy

Steve became a member of the Academy in 1982 with a certification specialty in Solid Waste. Steve has served tirelessly in support of AAEES’s members, including work on the SWM Committee and administering certification tests. The Academy is very grateful for his years of dedicated service.

Steve is a civil engineering graduate of VPISU [a.k.a., Virginia Tech] and became licensed in MD in 1976. After 40 years with the Bureau of Solid Waste Management in Baltimore County as the landfill engineer, Steve retired in 2012 and is maintaining his PE license, BCEE certification, and SWANA certification as a Manager of Landfill Operations. Steve is also a Life Member of APWA and ASCE, two other sponsoring organizations of AAEES.

Certified in solid waste management (SWM) by AAEES since 1982, Steve has been on its SWM Committee for most of those years (including time as chair). Steve has served on oral exam review panels, promoted AAEES certification among other solid waste professionals, staffed AAEES booths at conferences, served on committees, including Exam Upgrading, Planning, Membership, and Bylaws (including Bylaws Chair), and was SWANA's AAEES Trustee for six years from 2007-2012.

Thank you for everything you do, Steve!

Webinar Summary

This webinar will review engineering ethics as it applies to our profession. Starting with the 7 Canons of Ethics as defined by the American Society of Civil Engineers, we will then review several areas where licensed individuals commonly trip up with regard to disciplinary issues, finishing with several case studies from my own career. Using these examples, our goal is to help participants better identify difficult circumstances as they approach so that we can avoid ethical dilemmas.

This webinar is specially intended to meet the requirement for professional development hours in engineering ethics as required for license renewal in many states. However, it is the responsibility of the licensee to verify with respective state licensing board if this webinar can be credited towards its continuing education requirements.
